Universum Pigs on the run

Production Overview

The unthinkable happened in a slaughterhouse in the southwest of England in 1998: two pigs managed to escape the butchering knife and gun. For fully two weeks, the porcine siblings succeeded in evading the hundreds of human bloodhounds set on their trail. Through their flight they became national celebrities, reverently known as Butch and Sundance.

This documentary takes the compelling flight of the two porkers as its narrative frame for portraits of their wild relatives in the Spanish Extremadura, in the jungle of New Guinea and in the parks of Berlin, demonstrating the extraordinary intelligence shown by pigs and key moments in the common history of pigs and humans.
