Dachstein mit Hermann Maier

Meine Heimat - Der Dachstein mit Hermann Maier

Bowed down by the snow that has fallen throughout the night, the trees glisten white in the morning sun. It is one of those winter days which raises the spirits of every nature enthusiast - and every skier. Two small figures, dwarfed by their magnificent surroundings, make their way through the fresh snow: the legendary skier Hermann Maier and the world champion synchronised skier Hans-Peter Steiner.
"You can't just preach nature conservation, you have to live it!" says Hermann, referring to his beloved ski touring. Then he and Hans-Peter throw themselves down the slopes, keeping their distance from the forests where wild animals are spending the winter, and must remain undisturbed.

The downhill skiing scene is just one of the highlights of the second part of the Universum series "Meine Heimat/My Home", produced by Interspot Film and directed by Heinz Leger. Heinz and Hermann have worked together before when they took part in a race to the South Pole - Hermann on skis, Heinz in special vehicles. In addition, they have made a documentary about the Hohe Tauern National Park.

The film was first broadcast in Austria on 25. November 2014 in ORF 2, achieving a market share of 24%.
